Java Software Developer
Job Description
We're seeking a skilled and motivated Java Developer to join our dynamic development team. The ideal candidate has strong experience in Java, Spring Boot, and database technologies (SQL and/or NoSQL), and will design, develop, and maintain scalable, efficient backend systems that support our applications.
This is a hybrid position based in Morrisville, NC, with in-office days Tuesday through Thursday, 9-5, and remote work Monday and Friday. The engagement is a 6-month contract to hire.
You'll be responsible for writing software that maintains and controls computer systems, operating systems, networked systems, and database systems, building the platform and then fine-tuning the final program. The role requires knowledge of the full software development lifecycle, from business systems analysis through requirements gathering and functional specification.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Java-based backend services and APIs using Spring Boot
- Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices and meeting deadlines
- Develop and optimize database queries across SQL and/or NoSQL databases
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to team knowledge sharing
- Debug and resolve application issues, performance bottlenecks, and bugs
- Implement security and data protection measures in line with best practices
- Interact and work with customers remotely and in person as necessary
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to understand and resolve support tickets and incidents
- Document customer interactions and workflow in a timely manner
- Comply with and support an Agile environment
Requirements
- 2-4 years of Java experience; strong proficiency in Java 11 and 17
- Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the broader Spring ecosystem (Spring Data, Spring Security)
- Solid understanding of relational databases (Microsoft SQL Server) and/or NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis)
- Experience with RESTful API development
- Hibernate / JPA experience
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git
- Understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, and software development principles
- Ability to troubleshoot code and make system changes as needed to resolve issues
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently, manage your own time, and collaborate in a team environment
- Degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and build tools (Jenkins, Maven, Gradle)
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
- JMS/messaging, XML, REST/SOAP
